Who is Padmasambhava?
The most common name of Guru Padmasambhava is Guru Rinpoche meaning, “precious master”. He was not gradually enlightened; rather he was already enlightened because he was the reincarnation of Buddha Shakyamuni an enlightened being.
Buddha Shakyamuni predicted the birth of Padmasambhava or his Mahaparinirvana in Mahaparinirvana Sutra and to his students those who were present at that time.
He said, “Eight years after my mahaparinirvana, a remarkable being with the name Padmasambhava will appear in the center of a lotus and reveal the highest teaching concerning the ultimate state of the true nature, bringing great benefit to all sentient beings.”
He also said that Padmasambhava would be attaining high enlightenment state and he will be much more enlightened than Buddha Shakyamuni is.
